HIS History

Hillcrest School first began as Sentani International School (SIS) in 1958 when the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) established an elementary school to provide education for the children of the C&MA. The site of the campus on the Pos 7 hill once housed General Douglas MacArthur’s staff during WWII. Children from other missions were later included in the student body.

In 1991, SIS was reorganized as an inter-mission school. As the students of SIS grew into high school age, a desire for a secondary school resulted in the establishment of an inter-mission high school in 1987. This inter-mission high school was called Hillcrest International School (HIS).

In 1995, SIS and HIS were consolidated under a single Board of Directors. In 1999, the Pos 7 campus was closed and the elementary/middle school program moved to the high school site where we are currently located. Due to government regulation changes in 2014, the name of Hillcrest International School was changed to Hillcrest School.
