High School

The primary focus of high school academics is to prepare our international students for university study in their individual home countries. In reality, the easiest transition will be to North American universities and colleges because the academic program is based on a US model. HIS uses the AERO standards for the core subject areas, supplementing this with a Christian world-view, and ACSI standard for our Bible classes.

Core subjects that are studied almost every year of students’ high school career include :
*Bible
*English
*Math
*Science
*Social Studies

Other important areas of study include :
*Indonesian language and culture
*Art
*PE
*Health
*Music
*Technology

These classes are also a part of our graduation requirements. They are offered as often as possible, but they also depend on staff availability.
HIS also offers a number of AP courses that include AP Language, AP Literature, AP Calculus, AP European History,  AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP Psychology, AP Statistics, AP Pre-calculus, and others.
An education is more than course content. Developing proper work habits and attitudes are also important, as we strive to support parents fully in their efforts to raise children of good character and high moral standing, able to be leaders in today’s world. We promote Christian values, believing that these values will enhance all academic learning and produce students who are ready and able to excel in whatever field they choose.
All full-time students participate in a weekly chapel service. During chapel, a student committee leads the entire high school in a time of worship, prayer, and Bible teaching.

Typical Daily Schedule

In the high school, we follow an eight-period schedule with 40-minute long periods each day. On Fridays, each period is shortened to add time for chapel. A typical student would take seven classes in a day leaving one period for study hall. The table below shows the usual classes for each grade level. Many times courses are offered during alternating years to two grade levels at once to reduce the number of classes offered each school year.
